www.HealthyToys.org is a project of the Ecology Center which tests children’s toys for toxic chemicals in “over 1,200 toys and children’s products.” Items are tested for levels of lead, cadmium, chlorine/PVC, arsenic and mercury. The site includes an excellent FAQ and background on toxic chemicals which are sometimes found in children’s toys.

IVR (Interactive Voice Response) is the name for computers who answer most customer service phone calls today. http://gethuman.com is an informative website which offers tips on how to get to speak to a PERSON. The website also contains a list of “800″ customer service numbers which are rated between A and F for the organization’s telephone customer service vs. the GETHUMAN standard.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold public meetings on the proposed Broadwater LNG Project Draft Environmental Statement. The public is invited to attend these meetings which will be held on January 9, 10, 11 and 16, 2007. New E-Mail Scam December 28, 2006

The Social Security Administration is warning people about a new e-mail scam that threatens to “suspend your account indefinitely” unless you update your personal information. The e-mail contains the subject line “Cost-of-Living for the 2007 update” and asks for the individual’s Social Security number, bank account and credit card information. Those who receive the e-mail should contact Social Security’s Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.

Pretexting is “the practice of getting your personal information under false pretenses.” Valuable information such as your Social Security Number, telephone records and your bank and credit card account numbers are what pretexters are after. You can learn how to recognize these scam artists and their sneaky tactics on the Federal Trade Commission’s excellent web site www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/pretext.htm. Pretexters sell your personal information to people who could use it to “get credit in your name, steal your assets or to investigate or sue you.” Check it out !
