Many people consider Fall their favorite time of year. It is also a very busy time of year. People are busy cleaning up their yards and protecting them for winter. The Library has lots of good information on the best way to prepare your garden and yard so it is at its the best when Spring and Summer reappear. We also have some great recipes if you’re going apple picking. We hope to see you in the Library!
Budget Passes, New Trustees Elected September 26, 2007

The John Jermain Memorial Library’s 2008 operating budget of $933, 350.00 was overwhelmingly approved by School District voters in yesterday’s vote, 186 to 62. Thank you Sag Harbor!
There were four seats on Board of Trustees up for election this year: the three that would normally be up for election, and a fourth due to the resignation of Trustee Deborah Wilson, earlier this year. Three candidates ran for these four seats, so all were elected. The results were Nancy Hallock, 176 votes, Carol Williams, 168 votes and Carl Peterson, 159 votes. In addition there were several write-in candidates, and with the highest write-in total of 59 votes, Kate Evarts was elected to fill the remainder of Deborah Wilson’s unexpired term. She will take her seat immediately upon being sworn in, and will serve until December 31, 2009.
Of the other three elected candidates, the two top-vote getters, Nancy Hallock and Carol Williams will start immediately upon being sworn in so they can complete the terms of two other Trustees who resigned this year, Greg Ferraris and Jim Marquardt. The uncompleted terms will end on December 31, 2007. Then on January 1, 2008, Hallock and Williams will begin serving their own three-year terms.
Carl Peterson, who was the third highest vote getter will replace Trustee Donna Milazzo — who chose not to run for re-election — on January 1, 2008 when her term expires. He too will serve a three-year term, ending on December 31, 2010.
Congratulations to all the newly elected Trustees.

Trustees Announce New Director September 12, 2007

The Staff of the JJML met this morning with our new Director, Catherine Creedon. Board and Staff alike are thrilled to welcome Cathy to the library. She brings to our ranks an extraordinary depth of library experience and a proven commitment to this community. We will be hosting a small get-together at the Library on Sunday, September 30th, from 5-7 pm (time change) 3-5 p.m., so that interested members of the public can meet her in person. Please come!
Cathy has an MLS degree, and has worked in libraries for 32 years, beginning as a clerk just out of college. She has driven bookmobiles, worked in prison libraries and museums, as well as in public libraries and in schools. She served as Director of the two-site library of the Morriss Center School in Wainscott, and was the instrumental force in developing the initial high school collection there. She is currently both a reference librarian and a young adult author (Read her novel BLUE WOLF; it is in the JJML collection and was required summer reading for the Ross School 7th grade this year!).
Cathy is an active member of our Sag Harbor community, volunteering for Literacy Suffolk, in food pantries and as advisor on many student literary publications. Cathy and her husband Scott Sandell have lived in the Sag Harbor School district for nearly two decades. Her two sons, now both in college, went through the Sag Harbor school system and graduated from Pierson. (Both Ben and Per also worked at the JJML during high school, so this is a library family!)
We are delighted to welcome Cathy, and are certain that you will be delighted to work with her as Director of the John Jermain Library, beginning October 1st and for many years to come!
